The Chilean Mezzo Soprano Graciela Araya made her debut at 19, singing Maria in West Side Story and at 20 sang the role of Henriquetta di Francia in I Puritani.
In 1984 Ms. Araya was awarded a scholarship to study and perform at the Deutsche Oper Berlin where she created the role of the "Gedankenstimme" in Siegfried Matthus'opera "Cornet" (directed by Maximilian Schell).
After two years in Aachen and three years in Duesseldorf she became a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera of which she was a part for 12 years.
She also has film experience, having stared in Orfeo ed Euridice directed by Peter Werhahn in 1987, for which she won the prize O.E.Hasse for best young artist in Germany.
