Maria Andergast was born in Austria in 1912.She studies dancing with Grete Wiesenthal and later at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts.
In 1932 she acted in a Luis Trenker movie the first time. Among her film partners were Wolf Albach-Retty, Viktor de Kowa, Albrecht Schoenhals, Leo Slezak, Hans Moser und Paul Hoerbiger.
During WW2 she mostly worked in Vienna and went on tour to Rome, Warsaw, Switzerland and Sweden. During this time she acted in 2 Nazi Propaganda movies (Spaehtrupp Hallgarten, Sechs Tage Heimaturlaub, both 1941).
After the Second Warl War she plaid at the Theater in der Josefstadt and at the Muenchner Residenztheater.
As singer she became famous with the Hans Lang song " Mariandl ".
