Admiral Otto von Diederichs (1843-1918) as commander of the German troops in Kiautschou was - under presence of Prince Henry from Prussia - honoured with this monument.
In 1897. November 14th, the German troops under Admiral von Diederichs occupy the Bay of Kiautschou ( in English sometimes spelled Kiauchow) "without spilling any blood". The event was justified by the previous assassination of two German missionaries (Ries and Henle) in China.
