Victoria Vergara was born in Chile, studied there and later in New York. She has been recognised internationally as a Carmen, performing at all major opera houses in Europe and America, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York conducted by Domingo. Among the most important world premiere roles are the Duchess of Alba in Menotti’s Goya in Washington, la Dona in Luis de Pablo’s El viajero indiscreto in Madrid, and her present performance as Beatriz in Leonardo Balada’s Cristobal Colon. Her DVD recordings include Maddalena in Rigoletto, with Pavarotti, and Carmen with Domingo.
