Wolfgang Sawallisch born 1923 in Munich, Germany, is one of the most important German conductors. Sawallisch is also a gifted pianist and has given recitals with many of the leading instrumentalists and singers of our time, including Dietrich Fischer - Dieskau and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.
He conducted many famous orchestras like and was General Music Director at Hamburg and Principal Conductor of the Philharmonic State Symphony Orchestra between 1960 and 1970. In addition he was Principal Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
From 1957 to 1961 he also conducted at the Bayreuth Festival.
