Antique Japan Photograph: 3 Japanese beating gongs and drum. One of them is carrying a tall stand on his back.

Albumen studio-photo, thin paper, fixed on paper with small glue spots at he corners.

Antique Chinese Daoist Ritual Object 19. ct

China, app. 18. Century. Well carved wooden ritual object used to expel ghosts.

At the front side a Daoist (exorcist) with sword, standing on a fire-wheel is carved. At the reverse and side a Daoist formula is engraved – wu lei hao ling (五雷號令).

More Daoist spells at both sides of the object (千千雄兵 萬萬孟將).

6 x 3 x 14 cm, good condition, natural patina, good condition. Scarce.

Qing Dynasty Bronze: Seated Buddha Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin) with scepter, wearing an openwork crown.

Detailed, fine work, rich ornaments.

According Ming-style the figure has a large head and a gentle smile.

Attractive natural patina. The bronze is approximately 100 years old.

Height: 30,5 cm, width: 21 cm, weight: 3,9 kg. Very good condition.

Old Chinese Seal from a Buddhist Monastery

Old Buddhist Monastery Seal

 

Old Chinese seal which has been used in a Buddhist monastery (Shanghai region). Dark green stone, some golden spots.

As actual seal 4 characters have been carved: 佛光普照 Fo guang pu zhao (Buddha’s Brightness illuminates all Things).

The seal is from early last century.

69 x 69 x 37 mm, good condition.

China, Qing Dynasty: Gilded Buddha Akshobhya.

Qing Dynasty, Chinese Bronze-Buddha Akshobhya, fire-gilded.

3,2 x 2,2 x 4,4 inches (83 x 53 x 110 mm), 290 gram.

The gilding is partly worn out but intact on the larger part of the figure.

The content in the body oft he Buddha is still existent, the base-plate is uneven.
The Object comes from the important Dr. Walter Heihs collection.

Buddha Akshobhya, “the Unshakable”, is the Buddha touching the Earth with his right hand, while his left hand is resting in his lap to accept alms.

This position is known as the Bhumisparsha Mudra.

Small Thangka Painting Tibet 17 – 18. Ct. Buddha Avalokiteshvara

Tibet app. 17th to 18th century: Small, delicately painted Thangka-painting, depicting am eight-armed Buddha Avalokiteshvara with a 11 headed top.

Small Tibetan characters at the reverse

80 x 104 mm, slightly darkened along the margins, minor aging at upper middle part. Matted and framed it would come out very well.

Qing Dynasty Huang-Mu Figurine: Taoist with Child

China: Wooden Figurine. Daoist Priest with Baby. Pre 1900

Small, fine wooden sculpture from the Qing-Dynasty. It depicts a Taoist priest with a fly whisk in one hand and a little child with a peach in the other arm. Bat motifs are carved at the pedestal. The sculpture is made of Huang-mu wood and in fine condition with no faults.

Diameter of the base: 1,6 inches, height: 4,7 inches.
