Antique Etching with Chinese Scene in Canton

Mid-19th century etching with a most charming scene from Canton, China, entitled: ” House of a Chinese Merchant near Canton”.
Engraved by W. H. Capone after a drawing by Thomas Allom.

Thick printing paper, 7,8 x 4,9 in is the actual print, 11 x 8,2 the complete sheet. Good condition, clean and fresh. It looks great when matted and framed.

Thomas Allom (1804 –1872) was an English architect, artist, and topographical illustrator. He was a founding member of what became the Royal Institute of British Architects. He designed many buildings in London, including the Church of St Peter’s and parts of the elegant Ladbroke Estate in Notting Hill. He is also known for his numerous topographical works, such as Constantinople and the Scenery of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, published in 1838, and China Illustrated, published in 1845.
