Karl Doenitz was a German naval Commander who served in the Imperial German Navy during World War I, and during World War II commanded first the German submarine fleet, and then the entire German Navy (Kriegsmarine).
In the final days of the war, Doenitz was named by Adolf Hitler as his successor, and after the Fuhrer killed himself, the admiral assumed the office of President (Reichspraesident) of Nazi Germany. He held this position for about 20 days, until the final surrender to the Allies.
After the war, Doenitz was convicted of war crimes at the Nuremberg Trials and served ten years in prison.
Oberleutnant Kurt Schulze was a Luftwaffe fighter pilot with more than 100 sorties.
