Decorative vintage postcard depicting the German WWI steamer Gefion. Portrait of Prince Heinrich.
Used as advertising postcard: “Thüringer Kaffee-Würze, feinste Kaffeeverbesserungsmittel”.
Unused postcard in very good condition.

Gefion initially served with the main German fleet and frequently escorted Kaiser Wilhelm II’s yacht Hohenzollern on trips to other European countries, including a state visit to Russia in 1897. In late 1897, Gefion was reassigned to the East Asia Squadron; she arrived there in May 1898.
The ship took part in the Battle of Taku Forts in June 1900 during the Boxer Rebellion in China.

China Mocking Postcard

Scarce early, lithographed color postcard entitled„ Nur immer rein in den deutschen Bund!” (Just come in and join the German League). The postcard depicts Germans and an American black man with a beer mug. A Chinese soldier with pigtail and a German spiked helmet stands in a door.

1899 sent from Muenster to Dortmund. Slight wear, scarce.

Attached is a German 10 Pfennig stamp with a China imprint, tied by a TSINTAU China 26/12 98 – cancellation. Wilhelmshaven arrival mark.

Slight wear, a few brown spots form aging at the top border.
