Adolf von Sonnenthal (1834-1909), Austrian actor, was born of Jewish parentage in Budapest.

He made his first appearance at Temesvar in 1851, and after engagements at Hermannstadt and Graz came in the winter of 1855-1856 to Koenigsberg in Prussia. His first performance was so successful that he was engaged by Heinrich Laube for the Burgtheater in Vienna, making his first appearance as Mortimer in Schiller’s Maria Stuart.

Under Laube’s careful tuition he developed within three years into an actor of the first order, excelling both in tragedy and comedy; and in 1882, after twenty-five years of brilliant service at the Court Theatre, he was given a patent of nobility.

In 1884 he became manager-in-chief of the theatre; and in 1887-1888 acted as artistic advisor. He visited the United States in 1885, and again in 1899 and 1902, achieving great success.

His chief parts were Nathan in Lessing’s Nathan der Weise, Wallenstein, and Der Meister von Palmyra.

Lauritz Melchior (20 1890 – 1973) was a Danish and later American opera singer. He was the pre-eminent Wagnerian tenor of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s and has since come to be considered the quintessence of his voice type. Late in his career, Melchior appeared in movie musicals and on radio and television. He also made numerous recordings.

Word of his talent spread and was heard of by Cosima and Siegfried Wagner at Bayreuth. There the re-opening of the Festival for 1924 was under preparation. Melchior was engaged to sing Siegmund and Parsifal. This prestigious contract opened the way to several other appearances such as a Wagner concert with Frida Leider in Berlin in 1923. Around this time several acoustic records were cut for Polydor.

On May 14, 1924 Lauritz Melchior made his debut, as Siegmund, at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London. The result was a smashing success. Some weeks later Melchior made his debut on the stage of the Festspielhaus in Bayreuth in the roles of Siegmund and Parsifal. In July 1925 Adolf Hitler attended a performance of Parsifal in Bayreuth as a guest of Winifred Wagner. According to Walpole, who was sitting in Wagner’s box next to Hitler, as Melchior sang, “the tears poured down Hitler’s cheeks”.

Claudia Cardinale Authentic Autograph

The Autograph comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Claudia Cardinale is an Italian actress born in Tunis, Tunisia. The most notable films she has appeared in include 8½ (1963) and Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). The majority of Cardinale’s films have been either of Italian or French origin.

Throughout the 1960s, she appeared in some of the best Italian and European films including Luchino Visconti’s Il Gattopardo (The Leopard, 1963) and Rocco e i suoi fratelli (1960), Philippe de Broca’s Cartouche (1963), Federico Fellini’s 8½ (1963), and Sergio Leone’s epic Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). Because she lacked fluency in language, her voice—in the early Italian films—was dubbed by someone else. Not until 8½ was she allowed to dub her own dialogue.

Because Cardinale was not interested in leaving Europe for extended periods of time, she never made a real attempt to break into the American market. The list of her Hollywood films includes The Pink Panther (1963), in which she was dubbed by an American actress; Circus World (1964); Blindfold (1965); and The Professionals (1966), in which she played opposite Lee Marvin and Burt Lancaster.

Albert Schweitzer Autograph Peace Nobel Price Winner 1952

Authentic Albert Schweitzer autograph: Portrait photo-print with hand-written lines and signature.
The Autograph comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

14,5 x 10,5 cm. At the upper margin at the back traces from glue can be found. The writing is slightly faded.

The text reads:

A mon table de Lambaréné à monsieur Antoine Fischer.
Albert Schweitzer. Lambaréné 2.1.1964

Albert Schweitzer (1875 – 1965) was a French-German theologian, organist, philosopher, and physician. He was born in the province of Alsace-Lorraine, at that time part of the German Empire, though he considered himself French and wrote mostly in French.

Schweitzer, a Lutheran, challenged both the secular view of Jesus as depicted by historical-critical methodology current at this time in certain academic circles, as well as the traditional Christian view. His contributions to the interpretation of Pauline Christianity are noteworthy because they concern the role of Paul’s mysticism of “being in Christ” as primary in importance rather than the secondary doctrine of Justification by Faith.

He received the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize for his philosophy of “Reverence for Life”, expressed in many ways, but most famously in founding and sustaining the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné, now in Gabon, west central Africa (then French Equatorial Africa). As a music scholar and organist, he studied the music of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach and influenced the Organ reform movement (Orgelbewegung).
